Controversial Borders

It goes without saying that both sides want to control as much of the land in the region as possible. Israel believes that all the land belongs to them, as it was given to them by the British after World War 2. Palestine believes that all of the land belongs to them, as it has been their homeland for as long as they can remember. In creating a solution to the problem of drawing borders, neither side will want to give up any land.

Israel is definitely in a position of power in this conflict. They have a lot more people, a larger economy, and more military strength. Israel will see no reason to give up land to the Palestinians in a negotiation, as they already control most of the land. Giving up land to the Palestinians seems pointless if you are in Israel''s position.

On the other hand, if you are in Palestine's position, you will feel different. The Palestinians will not sign off on any agreement that leaves them with the current amount of land that they control. Israel has already taken much of their land, and they will certainly want it back. The Palestinians feel as if they have been treated unfairly, and this will only make the negotiations more difficult.

With neither side willing to lose any territory, a negotiation will be far out of reach. This is only one of the many difficult issues to solve in a deal, too. There is no reason to believe that either country will change its stance on the issue of drawing borders, either.
