The City of Jerusalem

Jerusalem the religious capital for Muslims, Jews, and Christians. Both Israel and Palestine want to have Israel as their capital. One region of Jerusalem in particular, the old city, has very important monuments such as the Western Wall and the Temple Mount. Israel has claimed the Eastern side of Jerusalem as theirs, while leaving a portion of it under Palestinian control.

If a deal were to be made between the two nations, the issue of who gets to control Jerusalem would be yet another central issue. It is possible that the sides could reach an agreement where each country could have a portion of Jerusalem, but there are important religious sites all over the city. Israel would definitely want to control the religious sites that are important to Judaism, while Palestine would definitely want to control the sites important to Islam. While possible, a negotiation for the control of Jerusalem would be very difficult to create.
