The Religious Aspect

This conflict is seen by many as a conflict of religions. The state of Israel is Jewish, while Palestine is a Muslim state. If these two countries did not officially recognize a specific religion, or if they recognized the same religion, this conflict would be much more solvable. The two sides would understand each other and get along better, and they would integrate easier.

Religion is very important to many people in both of the countries. People worry that if the area turns into one country, one of the religious groups will be left out of the system. If Israel claims the rest of the land as theirs and forces the Palestinians to live in a Jewish state, it is entirely possible that the Palestinians will lose their rights because of their religion. This is a concern of many Palestinians.

The two states could keep their religious alignments if they stayed separate. But as discussed earlier, there are many Israelis living in Palestine and there are many Palestinians living in Israel. If the two states worked out proper borders, many people  could be left out of the country that agrees with their religion. This in turn could lead to persecuted religious minorities, which would drive the two sides further apart.
